What’s happening to day centre services? New UNISON research collaboration

As a result of cuts and the drive for ‘personalisation’, day centre provision is being heavily hit. Less high profile than residential or home care, day centres provide vital care, support and respite but are seen as an easy targets for cuts.

UNISON has teamed up with Dr Catherine Needham, from Queen Mary, University of London to conduct some research to establish a national picture of what’s happening to day care services.

Dr Needham has devised a short on-line survey which we would like branches to complete. The survey findings will guide UNISON’S national and local campaigns against day centre cuts and closures.

They will also be used in Dr Needham’s academic research to build up a picture of how the combination of funding cuts and personalisation reforms are reshaping day services across the country.

The survey can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/s/DayCentreResearch and will remain open until 2nd  March 2012. Please forward to stewards in day centre services. All responses will be treated as confidential and will not be attributed in any published material.
