Blog, Thoughts of a seconded officer 4

“Oi UNISON, what are you doing about the pensions?”

“Oi UNISON, what are you doing about the millage?”

I’ve had this phrase shouted, asked, emailed and phoned many times on many issues. They then say “I’ve come to you because the union are telling us nothing!” The question that should be asked is “What are we doing about,” because UNISON is set up by the members for the members. We are UNISON. The above comments just go to show we need more reps, to help serve our members. Reps are the backbone of the organisation, giving information, supporting members, helping to protect terms and conditions and fighting injustice wherever we find it (sorry, just went into batman mode).

We are now taking nominations for new stewards. Full support and training will be given. Please remember that UNISON is run by the members for the members, so if you want to help support your colleagues in the workplace, please consider becoming a UNISON steward by completing the form attached. http://lancashireunison.org/2010/09/get-involved-become-a-unison-representative/If you would like further information on becoming a rep please don’t hesitate to contact me at chris.lomax@lancashire.gov.uk
